Heyo Cart, a new social commerce tool created by contests platform, Heyo Inc., is breaking down barriers to converting a Facebook following into paying customers.
The new tool helps authors and digital media producers sell their products directly through social media, enabling sellers to post links through Facebook and allowing their fans to comment the word “buy” into the post. Another comment is then automatically posted with a link to a Heyo Cart checkout page where a user can purchase the product and Heyo Inc. handles the payment and delivery.
In practice, the tool is not as seamless as one would hope as consumers are still being redirected from Facebook. However, because they are sent directly to a checkout page, Heyo Cart has succeeded in eliminating a significant amount of friction in converting the social media following.
Currently, Heyo Cart only works with digital products including books, songs and videos, since these sellers are only distributing a couple of products at a time. Unfortunately, because of the small scale of this concept, its current process cannot scale to meet the needs of larger retailers with numerous products.
Although it may only work for small retailers, Heyo Cart illustrates the power of innovation in the eCommerce and social commerce landscape. Retailers cannot afford to ignore social media as a way to connect with their customers, however, they need to find ways to ensure their social media efforts are truly offering a return on investment.
With social media platforms constantly putting up roadblocks and customers’ aversion to advertising on social media, brands need to be resourceful and creative. They need to understand the importance of implementing tools that integrate well with social networks and provide greater value to their customers, to turn their social media following into paying customers.
