“Good things come in small packages” I am sure you have heard this a lot of times and this probably comes true in case of Social Networking tool Twitter. Twitter which started of as a Social Networking site has now turned into a business networking tool. More and more brands are using Twitter to get a word about their products and websites. In general, Twitter is a good place to choose, when it comes to promoting your brand and helping your customers with more than 150 million users on Twitter, there is no doubt that there exist a great potential in using it as a marketing channel.

The big question that many people have even before they think of using Twitter as a marketing tool for their brand is “Are 140 characters enough to market and promote your brand ?”. The answer to that is if used properly and wisely 140 characters are more than enough to send your message out and build relationships with consumers. Unlike traditional marketing where the focus was on building the product first and then finding the consumers suitable for that product, times have changed now we see that brands now focus on what customers are looking for and then develop the right kind of product for their them. As a brand while using Twitter to market yourself it’s important to be friendly and show the human side while dealing with business. Share links to articles which interest your followers apart from your product at times. Re-tweet links of your friends and followers at times this will make them feel valuable. If you show your followers that there is a human aspect behind the 140 character business account then you will see that it strengthens your relationship with your consumers and will help you get more success on Twitter. A good way of probably showing the human side on Twitter would be introducing someone new to your list of followers. This will act as a double sword for you, not only the person whom you have introduced will be grateful to you but your followers will also know that there is a human angle to the business account.

Engage into meaningful conversations with your consumers, always have a two way communication with your consumers raise questions and take feedbacks from them on your products. Use Twitter as a customer service tool properly, answer questions of your customers, if you feel that Twitter is limited then connect to other networking tools as such as Google, LinkedIn or Facebook using Twitter. Be consistent while replying and posting updates on Twitter, use key dates to promote new products and spread a good word around.

One thing to remember while you use Twitter is that whatever you say on is there for the whole world to make a notice, so make use of your best writing and creative skills while writing on Twitter. Do not use offensive and slang language while replying or sending a message out to your consumers. Be professional and be careful about others thoughts.
